Grand Prairie was fortunate to have two of the first Freedmen communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area following the Emancipation Proclamation in Bear Creek and Freetown (The Line), with Dalworth following after the turn of the century in the 1900's. Many of the ancestors of those founding families still live in town. Through a series of interviews, Questionnaires, excerpts from historic "It Happened in Grand Prairie" videos and news articles, the author was able to craft the chronology of the African-American in Grand Prairie, which is presented in this book.
